US Production 2023/2024

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) unveiled the 2023 pecan production figures, totalling 271.45 million pounds (123,106.57 metric tons), representing only a 6% decrease from the previous year. This comprehensive figure encompasses actual production, cold storage inventory, and imports.

A closer look at the breakdown reveals that actual production within the US reached 60,139 metric tons across all producing states, while imports and cold storage inventory accounted for an additional 62,967 metric tons, as reported by the American Pecan Council (APC) alongside our calculations. Additionally, pecan plantations of bearing age spanned 441,000 acres (178,470 hectares).

According to data from the USDA, ranking production, cold storage stock and imports per state, New Mexico emerged as the leading state, boasting 100 million pounds (45,352 metric tons) of pecans, followed closely by Georgia with 88.3 million pounds (40,045 metric tons). Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma also made notable contributions, with figures of 45.5 million pounds (20,635 metric tons), 24 million pounds (10,884 metric tons), and 13.65 million pounds (6,190 metric tons) respectively.
