Xolani’s Story

Xolani Njokweni – Ntsika Farming (Broederstroom)

Growing up in rural Eastern Cape, Xolani Njokweni always had a deep passion for farming. However, his career initially took a different path—he practiced as an attorney for 24 years, starting in 1997.

In 2018, he took his first step toward realizing his dream by purchasing a farm in Broederstroom. While continuing his legal practice, he began farming part-time with cattle and sheep. By April 2021, he made a bold decision to leave the legal profession behind and commit fully to farming.

His journey with pecans began in 2022 when a friend suggested they consider planting pecan trees. Intrigued, Xolani researched the crop, reached out to SAPPA, and was immediately drawn to the opportunities within the transformation program. In 2023, he planted his first pecan trees.

Xolani fully embraces SAPPA’s partnership model, having personally invested more than 50% in the pecan trees established on his farm. He is deeply committed to the mentorship program, learns quickly, and values the support he receives from SAPPA.

Xolani’s farm showcases a well-managed young orchard, a testament to Xolani’s dedication and vision for the future.
